Setting up VCO Integration with VCAC in Visual Studio
If you are using the Design Center tool there will be no problem with direct integration between VCO & vCAC. If however you are using the CDK Visual Studio Addin there are some steps required to set it up the first time.
Setting up VCO Integration with Visual Studio:
Open notepad & update this file:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe.config”
Add this section
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe.config”
Add this section
Obviously change localhost to the correct vCAC Server Address (where the repository is located).
Restart Visual Studio.
Open Visual Studio and create a new empty workflow project
When opening and creating a new Workflow Project Solution you will need to also add the activities in the toolbox bar, to do this create a new “Tab” and call it VCO:
- Right Click the Choose Items
- Hit the Browse button which will open explorer
- A file from the DCAC Server will be required (you may need to get this from your SysAdmin):
- C:\Program Files (x86)\DynamicOps\Dcac Server\Tools\DynamicOps.VcoModel.Activities.dll
- Click Ok
You will then see the following activities:
- Now add the following reference (DLL) to your workflow project
- Right Click on the Workflow Project/References folder – Select “Add References”
- Add this file:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\DynamicOps\Dcac Server\Tools\DynamicOps.VcoModel.Common.dll
The solution should look like this:

Hi Tom,
Thank you for your great documentation. Today I tried to enable the vCO integration.
Everything worked perfect, except the first step …
I suppose that I have to add the section just below ?
If I do this, Visual Studio is not able to start anymore.
I have inserted the section under many different areas – either Visual Studio cannot start, or I get an error message when I try to select a vCO workflow.
I am using Visual Studio 2010 Professional (10.0.30319) and the last version of the CDK.
Do you have any idea?
Greetings
Carsten
PS: We had also already a call together at 01/25/2013 … I was a Consultant for the customer.

Oh no! He removed the section elements!
There is the sentence again but with quotation marks:
I suppose that I have to add the “appSettings” section just below “configuration”?

Thanks Tom! This is very helpful, and not in the extensibility guide. 😉

I had to add a reference to System.Web.Helpers as well, which I found under the Self Service directory.

I'm trying to do this in VS 2012 w/ vCAC 5.2 – I can't seem to locate the referenced file above (even in the new installation path) on the vCAC server, and don't see any other reference assemblies sitting around (figuring they might be included with the Designer install now, like the other CDK activities). Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Mike

Hi, asking the same question as the above. This dll could not be found on the latest installation ( 5.2). Are we missing something?
